Khulna Traveling Guide

At present backdrop Bangladesh has become one of the most important traveling or tourism spots to the tourist. And the most important fact is, it is not only to the people of Bangladesh but also for the foreign people. By taking this importantly, we are trying to give the proper and appropriate guide lines (as much as we can do) about travel in Bangladesh. We believe that it will be a great solution of your traveling problem. In our previous discussions we have been talking about many important and beautiful traveling places or spots of Bangladesh. Such as tour at Bandarban, tour at Nilgiri, tour Tindu, also about some place of Khagrachori district and some place of Rangamati district. Today we will talk about another most beautiful and obviously most important traveling place “KHULNA”. 

Traveling is always a good habit. Traveling helps us in various ways. It is helpful to recreation your mind, it will refresh you and the more important fact that will help you to increase your knowledge. By traveling any place you will know more about that place, the life style of the people of that place. You will know about the culture also. It will help you to minimize your all kind of tensions and will relief you from the unnecessary pain. That’s why we are here with our new post about Khulna.

Khulna is another traveling place of beautiful Bangladesh. It is situated in the south-western part of Bangladesh. It is full of natural beauty and archeological places. At present time Khulna has become very important traveling place or spot to the tourists. The Coordinates of Khulna is 22°49′0″N 89°33′0″E, Country: Bangladesh, Division: Khulna division, District: Khulna district.

Khulna is the 3rd largest city in Bangladesh. It is one of the most important places of Bangladesh. The area of Khulna division is near about 25227 sq. Km. There are lots of river in Khulna. But the main rivers are Ganga, Gorai, Modhumati, Pasur, Rupsa, Bhairab, Kapotakkha , Mongla, Haringhata, Isamoti, Kalindi, Haria vanga, Mathavanga etc. There is an old river port in Khulna which is located on the Rupsa River. It is very important naval part to the Bangladeshi Industry. It hosts many national companies of Bangladesh. The 2nd largest seaport of the country “Port of Mongla” is situated here. Khulna is very important area from commercial site. But the most important fact about Khulna is the traveling site. There are two most important traveling spots are Sundarbans and Shat Gombuj Mosque (sixty dome mosque).

Sundarban is another important traveling place of Khulna; even Sundarban is the most important traveling and tourist spot of Bangladesh. Sundarban is situated both in Bangladesh and India, but the majority part of Sundarban is in Bangladesh. About 60 percent that means about two-third of the whole Sundarban forest is in Bangladesh. The most important fact is Sundarban has announced the “World Heritage Site” by the UNESCO. The most visiting places of Sundarbans are Hiron point, Karamjol, Kaikhali and Mandarbaria. In these places you can see the tigers, birds, monkeys, deer, crocodiles and obviously the beauty of the nature. Singar Mosque: 

Singar Mosque is a beautiful tourist spot in Bagerhat, Khulna. It is about 200 metres away from the famous Shat Gombuj Mosque (Sixty dome mosque) across khulna-Bagherat Highway. The mosque consists of only a single dome. The external size of the dome is 12.45 square metre. The mosque has three archways in the east and the central arch is both wider and higher than the other two and one archway on the south and one in the north sides within rectangular frames. Each arch is framed in a narrow rectangle that contains moldings and rows of simple terracotta decoration at the top. This mosque is very attractive to the tourists.

Nine Dome Mosque: 

Nine Dome Mosque is situated at the west side of Thakur Dighi, Bagerhat. It is a historic mosque in Bagerhat, Bangladesh. It was built in the fifteenth century by a Mughal general on orders from Emperor Babur and then it was supervised later on by Emperor Humayun. The size of the mosque is 15.1 square metres which is roofed over with nine hemispherical domes and rest on four free- standing stone columns. It has three archways openings on the north, south and east sides and above all the arches there are horizontal rows of moldings. The mosque consists of three mihrabs (A semicircular niche in the wall of a mosque that indicates the qibla; that is, the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca) in the western walls and the centra mihrab is larger than others. Every year thousands of tourists come here to enjoy this historical beauty.

Ronvijoypur Mosque: 

Ronvijoypur Mosque is one of the most beautiful mosques in Bagerhat. It has a reputation that its dome is the largest dome in Bangladesh and it is about 11 metres width and supported by 3m-thick brick walls. The mosque is situated only 1.5 Km away from Shat Gombuj Mosque (Sixty dome mosque) and opposite side of the Khan Jehan Mausoleum. It is built according to Khan Jahan style of architecture. The mosque’s interior is plain and the main mihrabs are decorated in floral patterns. This mosque attracts the tourist very much.

Bibi Begni’s Mosque:

 Bibi Begni’s mosque is also a beautiful single domed mosque and it is situated at only about quarter miles west from the famous Shat Gombuj Mosque and the Bibi Begni’s mosque is stands on the bank of the Ghoradighi. This mosque is similar with Singar Mosque in general appearance except that it is larger and massively built. The building has three entrances on the east and one each on south and north sides. The central doorway is larger than other tows. The corner turrets are relieved with bands of mouldings at regular intervals.

Shat Gombuj Mosque (Sixty dome mosque), Bagerhat, Khulna: 

Shat Gombuj mosque is the archeological tourism place or spot of Khulna division. Shat Gombuj mosque is in Bagerhat district at Khulna. Shat Gombuj mosque was built in the mid of 15th century. A Muslim colony had built this beautiful and historical place. One of the greatest Sufi saints General named Ulugh Khan Jahan Ali had built this mosque. And for this Shat Gombuj mosque Bagerhat has become an important historical spot. He was the earliest torch bearer of Islam in the South of Bengal means Khulna division. There are about sixty domes in this mosque. Shat Gombuj mosque is the largest and the greatest traditional mosque in the country. We will be briefly discussed about it in our Shat Gombuj Masjid post.

The Chunakhola Mosque: 

Chunakhola Mosque is a beautiful mosque which is about 1km away from the Bibi Begni’s mosque. The mosque was built in the 15th century, is located in the middle of rice fields in the village of Chuna Khola. This mosque also has a single domed mosque like Singar Mosque. It has three mihrabs where the central mirhab is both wider and higher than other mirhabs. The mosque is about 7.7 square metres which has three entrances in the east and one entrance on the south and one in the north sides.

Khan Jahan Ali's Tomb: 

Where the greatest Sufi saints General named Ulugh Khan Jahan Ali was buried is known as tomb of Khan Jahan Ali. It is locally well known as Majar of Khan Jahan Ali or dargah complex of khan jahan. This tomb is one storied building and this building has a nice dome. In the middle of the building consists the grave of Khan Jahan Ali. The tomb is made of cut out stones. On the tomb there are inscriptions in Arabic. Khan Jahan Ali’s Tomb stands on a beautiful high artificial mound on the northern bank of the so-called Thakurdighi. The scene of tomb and the dighi (lake) is very attractive to the tourists.

Khodla Math Temple: 

Khodla Math temple is a beautiful tourist spot in Khulna. This temple is situated at Ayodhya which is about 11 Km away from Bagerhat, Khulna. It was built by the Brahman in early 17th century. It is 20 metres high onthis extra-ordinary beechive-like Hidu Building. Till now Khodla Math Temple is one of the tallest Hindu Structure ever built in Bangladesh. The entrance façade is thought to have originally be decorated with moulded terracotta art but it now badly wethred. This temple is about only 5 Km away from the Sundarbans. 

Bagerhat Museum: 

A small museum is located in front of the Shat Gombuj Mosque where antiquaries collected from the area of the historical site are displayed providing knowledge on the history of Bagerhat. This museum is established by the department of Archaeology of Bangladesh. The museum consists of inscriptions, potteries, terracotta plaques and ornamental brick and some beautiful pictures of important historic buildings of Bangladesh which attract the tourists very much.

Excluding the above visiting places there has many tourist places and they are Prem Kanun which is a nice statue made of trees. The Home of Khan E Sabur and it is situated at Lobon Chora area where two lion sculpture to the Rupsha River with staircase into the river which is a beautiful scene of the river and nature. Fultola Zoo is a beautiful place to spend a whole day with your family where you can find some animals, various native and non-native birds etc. and this zoo is very interesting to the Children’s. You can hire a vehicle from the city center. Rupsha Bridge is a long awaited bridge over the Rupsha River connecting Bagerhat and Mongla port. You can walk along the bridge and take a snap of Khulna city and the Rupsha River and a beautiful place frequently travel by local people and many more. Visiting this place will be a good solution for your recreation.

How to go:

Now we described about the easy way to go there. We also try to give you the proper guide lines about it. Hope that it will be helpful solution to you.The way of Sundarbans : Water transport is the only way to visit Sundarbans. Firstly you have to go Khulna by bus or train. The bus services are Hanif, Shyamoli and BRTC etc. Then you have to hire private motor launch or speedboats or country boats from Mongla or Khulna to go there. Another special tour to Khulna is by “Rocket Paddle Steamer” from Dhaka to Khulna. The way to Shat Gombuj Masjid (Sixty dome mosque): Bagerhat is about 45 km from Khulna. One can use local buses to arrive there. Then have to use local transport to go the mosque.
