Sreemangal

Sreemangal is one of the most important traveling places of Bangladesh. It is in Moulvibazar district of Sylhet. The area of Sreemangal is 450.74 km². Around Sreemangal there is Moulvibazar in north; Tripura of India is on south, on the east Kamalganjupazila and on west Chunarughat and Bahubalupazila. The Coordinates of the beautifull Sreemangal is 24.3083°N 91.7333°E. Once Sreemangal was a part of the Tripura state of India. In 1897 one of the biggest earthquakes occurs. After that a massive change caused in physiographic of Sreemangal and after the liberation war of 1971 of Bangladesh it was separated from India. Now it is the part of Bangladesh.

Sreemangal is full of natural beauty and history and archaeology. There are lots of beautiful tea stats, falls and an important and obviously one of the biggest resorts. This is the natural part of Sreemangal. In archaeological heritage there are Nirmmai Shib Bari, Tamrashasan of Raja Marundanath, and statue of Ananta Narayan. But the fact about of Tamrashasan and the Statue of Ananta Narayan are now preserved in the Calcutta Museum. Sreemangal is the part of Sylhet division. May be Sylhet is the main city but Sreemangal is one the main historical and beautiful place of Sylhet division. Sreemangal can be considering as the “Little Darjeeling” of Bangladesh.

Tour or Travel at Lawachara Rain Forest:

Lawachara is the most beautiful traveling spots in Sreemangal. Lawachara Rain Forest is one of the most beautiful forests in Bangladesh where wild life can breathe easy. This forest is built by the British, the time of their rule in Indian Subcontinent. The government of Bangladesh declared it as a National Park in 1997. Lawachara National Park is a major national park and nature reserve in Bangladesh. It is about 250 hectares national parkis the most beautiful tropical forest. The park is a home of large diversity of about 460 species among which 167 are plants, 4 amphibian species, 6 reptile species, 246 bird species and 20 mammal species. Leopards, deer, wild chicken, wild bores, squirrel, python, even king cobra are among the other inhabitants of this forest. Besides these animals one rare type of Chloroform tree of Asia is found here. There also have lots of birds. So for bird lovers must visit this place. This park is very attractive to the all types of tourists. If you travel this place you can see the beauty of nature and can get knowledge about the life style of this place. Tour or Travel at Madhabkunda Waterfall: 

Madhabkunda waterfall is one of the most beautiful tourist spots in Sylhet and it is one of the largest waterfalls in Bangladesh. The height of the Madhabkunda waterfall is 61m or 200 feet. The rhythmic sound of waterfall from 200 feet height you must enjoy. Big bolder of stones and the black stones with green leafy trees are making this waterfall so charming and eye catching and that’s why the travelers coming from different parts of the world prefer traveling Madhabkunda waterfall. Here you can also find a beautiful tribal village and you can enjoy tribe life here.

Hakaluki Haor is one of the biggest haors in Bangladesh and one of Asia’s larger Haor. The haor is consists with Sreemangal upazilla under Moulovibazar district. It is a marsh wet land ecological system of North-Eastern Bangladesh. The surface area of Hakaluki Haor is 181.15 km2 but during rainy season its total area turns into 7000 hectors. Hakaluki Haor was an ecologically critical area designated by Department of Environment. A total of 558 species of animal and birds have been identified here. Amphibians, Reptiles, Aves and Mammalia’s all of them enrich the biodiversity of this haor region where some are already threatened. This Haor is one of the most attractive places to the tourists. Rema Kalenga Forest or Rema Kalenga Wild life Sanctuary: 

Rema Kalenga Forest or Rema Kalenga Wild life Sanctuary covers an area of 1795 hectares. It is very nearer to Sreemangal and also closer to the Tripura border of India. It is a dry and ever green forest and also the second largest natural forest in Bangladesh after the Sundarbans. The Rema Kelenga wild life Sanctuary is known as a protected forest and wildlife sanctuary in our country. There has many wild creatures, currently it has about 37 species of mammals, 167 species of birds, seven species of amphibian, 18 species of reptiles and 638 species of plants. Here a variety of rare bird species, like - Racket tailed dragons, Parrots, Hill mortem, Red head kucakuci, Sepia Bulbul, Basanta Bauri, Voulchars, Mathura, Banamoraga, owl, King fisher, Eagle etc. are also available here Which attracts the tourists very much. This forest is another beautiful traveling place to have adventure.

Tour or Travel at Satchari Forest: 

Satchari Forest is situated in south-west direction of Sreemangal. It is about 60 km from the main town of Sreemangal. The area of the Satchari Forest is near about 243 hectares. Satchari National Park is also known as the Telepara Forest Reserve. It is the part of a larger protected region. Most of the people of our country have no idea about this place. May be it is less popular than Lawachara Forest but Satchari Forest is obviously a beautiful and most attractive and obviously the peaceful and quite area. There is also higher diversity of plants and animals then Lawachara and the population or the human disturbance is also less than Lawchara Forest. In there you will find a number of marked walking trails, several streams, a less number of population crowed, fishing cats, Payer’s languor, jungle fowl, pygmy woodpeckers and oriental pied horn-bills can be seen here. If you travel this forest it will be a great adventure for you.

If you travel Sreemangal you can visit Tribal villages because there has more than 11 Khashia villages and some Monipuri villages. The Khashia villages are generally situated at top of the hills and these villages are surrounded by betel and nut trees. If you want to visit these villages, it will be better that if you take the permission from the local chief because the local peoples are not enough hospitable without his permission. The cash crops of Khashia peoples are betel and nut. A Monipuri village is situated near by the Bangladesh tea research institute and this village name is Ramnagar. If you visit these areas you have a practical a great experience to know about the Tribal people life styles and cultures.

Sreemangal is sometimes called the city of “Two leaves and a bud” because there has many tea estates situated at Sreemangal and that’s why Sreemangal is called the tea capital of Bangladesh where you can find about 161 tea gardens are located where three of them ranked as the largest tea gardens in the world. A large portion of world's highest quality tea is grown and exported from Sreemangal, hence it is called the tea capital.You can enjoy here breath taking views of sloping landscape wrapped with endless tea gardens. The tea leaves are hand plucked by the local Bangladeshi men and women which is very attractive to the tourists. Tour or Travel at Madhabpur Lake: 

Madhabpur Lake is another beautiful traveling place of Sreemangal and also of Bangladesh. Lawachara and Madhabput Lake is in the same way. In this spot you can see a very beautiful lake and some small hills with beautiful tea garden. You can go bout of these two spot by CNG. It will take whole day to see both of these two spots.

How to go:

To go Sreemangal one can use bus, train or privet car from the capital Dhaka. Bus services are: Shyamoli, Hanif, Ena, Egal, Shohag, Greenline are some main bus services. Rent: A/C service- 1000 tk (+,-), Non A/C service- 350 tk and these bus services are available from various part of Dhaka city like Sayedabad, Shyamoli, Gabtoli and it is about 03 hours journey from Dhaka. Train services are: Kalni, Upoban etc. Rent would be 150tk to 700tk depending on classes these train services are available from Kamalapur Railway Station, Dhaka. Train may be the good solution for your comfortable journey.
