Sunamganj

Sunamganj is situated at northeast side of Bangladesh. Around Sunamaganj there is beautiful Sylhet District to the east, Habiganj District to the South and Netrokona District to the west and the north side is India. The name of Sunamganj was named after Sipai Sunamuddin. Many generations ago, he started a bazaar on the banks of Surma River. The beautiful places of Sunamganj are mainly situated in border area. There are lots of rivers in Sunamgang but the main rivers are Surma River, Kushiyara River, Ratna River, Da’uka another name Danuka River. The main attraction of Sunamganj is Haors and Beels means wetlands ecosystems which are mainly in the border side of Bangladesh.

The spots we named are the most beautiful traveling places of Sunamganj. Above all of these traveling places Tanguar Haor is the most beautiful place. Tanguar Haor is mainly wetlands ecosystems area. Haor means a vast area which if full of water in the time of rainy season but in the time of summer it is a field of various crops. Tanguar Haor is the 2nd biggest Haor of Bangladesh. Tanguar Haor is in the border area of Bangladesh. June to December is the best time to travel in Haor area. Before that time the Haor is look like a crop field. During the month of June the field is starting to fill up by water. If you travel to Tanguar Haor at the time of June to October you will find the watery beauty of the Haor. And if you travel at the time of November to December you can see lots of foreign birds who also come to travel our country. (NOTE: “PLEASE DON’T HART THEM, DON’T KILL THEM”). Both of these two times you can travel by boat and can watch the beauty of nature. Boat journey is little bit costly so it will better if you travel in group of 10-15 people.

You can go Sunamganj from Dhaka by bus. Busses are Shyamoli, Hanif, Ena etc. Rent will be tk. 500 per person. From Sunamganj you have to go to Boithakhali then have to cross the river. You can find lots of motor-bikes on the other side. By bike you have to go to Tahirpur rent will be tk. 150 per person. From Tahipur you can hire a boat to travel in Haor. Rent will be 1000-1200 tk.

Where to stay:

There are lots of Hotels in Sunamganj. The hotels are Surmavelly residential Resort, Hotel Nurani, Hotel Mizan, Hotel Nur etc. All of them are in Sunamganj main city. It is very easy to go any traveling spot form Sunamganj city. If anyone travels to Tanguar Haor he or she can spend whole day and a night in haor.

Laurer Garh:

Laurer Garh is one of the most important traveling spot of Sunamganj of Bangladesh. Laurer Garh is also situated at the border area of Bangladesh. By traveling in Laurer Garh you can see the beauty of Bangladesh. In Laurer Garh you will find the hills fitting in different layers, trees with various shades of green and obviously a river passing by this spot. Laurer Garh is a nice traveling spot for site seeing and an ideal picnic spot for families or friends or travelers. Laurer Garh is named by the name of Laur kingdom. Once there was a kingdom named Laur. But at present time you will get no sign of that time on that traveling spot.

You can go Laurer Garh from Dhaka you have to go Sunamganj first by bus. The bus services are Shyamoli, Hanif, Ena etc. Rent will be tk. 500 per person. There were lots of battles happened in Sunamganj during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971. Dolura memorial is stand as witness and it bears the evidence of this great war of Bangladesh. Some of the martyrs of the war of 1971 was fought here and buried here. In 1973 this Dalura memorial was build. It was build particularly 48 of the martyrs of the liberation war on 1971. Narayntara Christian Missionary is another traveling spot or place of Sunamganj. It is a Christian Missionary. This missionary was build with the goal to preach Christian religion among the local people of Sunamganj. This missionary also strengthens on spreading the light of education. It always tries to help people to develop their life and living standard of the Sunamganj. To do these kinds of glorious work this missionary was build near Doluar. It is situated at the most quite place of Sunamganj. It is situated far from the chaos and all kind of hustling and busting of the city life.
